Calculate personal year 2026 and 2027
Written by Amber Bordewijk, updated
Your personal year shows which themes and lessons take center stage in your nine-year cycle.
Each calendar year brings a different phase, from initiating and planting seeds (a 1-year) to completing and letting go (a 9-year). Use the tool below to discover which theme applies to you in 2026 or 2027.
What is your personal year for 2026?
Choose a year and see which theme is there for you.
How to calculate your personal year
The calculation is simple: add your day of birth, your month of birth, and the calendar year together.
Example (born August 15 for the year 2027):
- Day 15 + Month 8 + Year 2027 = 2050
- Add the digits of the total: 2 + 0 + 5 + 0 = 7
- Reduce to a single digit: Personal year 7
Note: Unlike the life path number, a personal year does not use master numbers. The result is always a single digit from 1 to 9.
Personal year 2027: what to know
How to calculate your personal year for 2027
Add your day of birth, your month of birth and 2027, then reduce the total to one digit. Someone born on 5 March gets 5 + 3 + 2027 = 2035. Then 2 + 0 + 3 + 5 = 10, and 1 + 0 = 1. In 2027 this person is in a personal year 1.
A quick check: your number goes up by one
Your personal year moves one step forward every calendar year, and after 9 it starts again at 1. If you are in a personal year 4 in 2026, then 2027 is a 5 year for you. If 2026 is a 9 year, 2027 brings you back to 1, the start of a new cycle.
The universal year 2027
2 + 0 + 2 + 7 = 11, and 1 + 1 = 2. So 2027 is a universal year 2. Some numerologists keep the 11 here. In my method year numbers always go back to 1 to 9, so I read it as a 2.
The universal year is the backdrop everyone shares. I use it lightly. Your own personal year says much more about you than the year the whole world has in common.
When does a personal year begin?
I follow the calendar year, so your new personal year begins on 1 January. Some numerologists start it on your birthday instead. If the theme of a new year only starts to feel familiar a few months in, that may be the reason, and it is fine to read both.
How I read a personal year
A personal year describes a theme. It can help you understand why some things feel easy in a particular year and others ask for more patience. It says nothing about what will happen to you, and nothing has to happen because of it. I find it most useful as a gentle lens, when you make plans or look back on a year.
Below you can read the theme of each personal year from 1 to 9.
Meanings of all 9 personal years
Read what each phase in the nine-year cycle represents:
Personal year 1
New beginnings and initiative
A 1-year marks the start of a fresh nine-year cycle. After completing the previous cycle, this is the time to set new directions and plant seeds. The theme of this year is taking initiative. You don't have to wait for the perfect moment. Begin, and adjust along the way. What you start now often colours the years that follow.
Personal year 2
Patience, balance, and cooperation
What you began last year now needs time to develop. Forcing things doesn't suit this year very well. Listening, working together and letting things grow at their own pace does. Relationships are central. Do keep an eye on your boundaries. Going along with others is fine, as long as you don't lose yourself.
Personal year 3
Creativity, expression, and social connection
A 3-year brings your voice and ideas into the open. This is a time to create, write, speak, and connect. Contact with others and creative plans get extra attention. The main pitfall is scattering your energy across too many things. Choose what matters most to you and focus your attention there.
Personal year 4
Structure, foundations, and steady work
A 4-year is about organizing and building. This is the year to bring order to what you started. Organize finances, turn ideas into practical plans, and establish solid routines. It may not feel like the most exciting year. Often it is a year in which you get a lot done.
Personal year 5
Change, freedom, and adaptability
After the building of the 4-year there is more room. This year suits being flexible, trying new things and letting go of old patterns. The pitfall is becoming too impulsive. Choose consciously what you really want to change.
Personal year 6
Home, family, and responsibility
A 6-year draws your attention toward the people closest to you. Family, home life, and close relationships take center stage. Many people feel the urge to do something with their home in a 6-year. Be mindful not to overextend yourself in caring for others at the expense of your own needs.
Personal year 7
Reflection, study, and quiet focus
A 7-year turns your focus inward. External activity slows so that deeper understanding can take root. Read, study, and examine where you stand. Social obligations can take a back seat. It is more a year of insights than of big actions, and that is fine. Even when things are quiet.
Personal year 8
Achievement, practical results, and responsibility
In an 8-year you often look at what you have built: in your work, with money, in how you present yourself. That shows what is in good shape, and where the foundation could be a bit stronger. Be honest about what works and what doesn't. How you handle influence and money is an important theme.
Personal year 9
Completion, letting go, and transition
A 9-year marks the close of your nine-year cycle. This is the time to wrap up projects and release what no longer fits your life. Projects, beliefs, or habits that have run their course can be let go. That doesn't always feel pleasant. What you finish does make room. Next year a new nine-year cycle begins.
